Chirpings about a Manilow Twitter

So i'm addicted to Twitter, I have been since i signed up in January. I love it i constantly update, I'm followed almost 200 people and have 50ish followers. I have numerous celebritie's tweets (twitter posts) being sent to my cell phone. My name is Kristen and I am a Twitter addict.
Recently I heard about Barry possibly being on Twitter. You have no idea how thrilled i was. So i followed a bunch of the Barrys on there (SMSSG, BarryManilow, and the UltimateManilow one)
I'm logged on now and I believe the BarryManilow account has been taken down/ suspended and the Ultimate Manilow has deffinently been taken down. Which leads me to believe that the BarryManilow account was a fake and the Ultimate manilow was either a fake or a short lived Manilow Administration experiment. The SMSSG account to me is an obvious fake, the tweeter (a person who posts tweets) is very concieted and kind of odd. The poster talks about stuff then refers to Marc like he's talking directly to Marc. If there was a real Barry Twitter account I'm sure the Hotline would be talking it up like mad or we would all know about it already through the Manilow Grapevine.
Frankly, I don't think Barry would go for Twitter. Too much information being spread to easy of a chance to accidently spread around information to fans that he wanted to keep private. What I've seen from Barry and what I've interpreted from it is that he's a private dude and he doesn't want people all up in his business.
But I don't doubt that Barry's organization will eventually get a Manilow Twitter up and running. They got on board with Myspace pretty late in the game and Facebook as well. So I think if the Manilow people see that there is enough interest in the world for Twitter or notices talks from fans there will eventually be a Company run Barry Manilow Twitter account. If and when there is a Manilow twitter account it'll be a lot like the Manilow website and the Myspace blog. Barely any updates till there is something to promote.

Tottaly lost track of the time, I have to go to sleep! Glad I finally got back on here, I've been away for a long time. I've had a lot of school stuff to do. Well Good Night!

EVERETT, Wash. - Beginning next fall, two Snohomish County elementary schools will have a stringed instrument program, thanks to singer/songwriter Barry Manilow.
Manilow is donating 45 Yamaha violins to the school district through his program, the Manilow Music Project.
The Everett Symphony says the "Prelude Strings" program will be open to fourth and fifth graders at Hawthorne Elementary in Everett and Tulalip Elementary in Marysville.
The Tulalip Elementary program will run at noon, and the Hawthorne Elementary program will be an after-school program.
Ron Friesen, a 32-year veteran music teacher and band director, will donate his time to teach and administer the program.
Hawthorne and Tulalip elementary schools will share information with students and parents this spring.
“Every student who wants to participate will be able to,” said Friesen. “If a student says ‘I want to play,’ we’ll make sure they get to play.”

I'm so bad at updating these things, I apologize! I've had computer issues lately as well as a monster sized history project that I should be working on right now. Good point, Barry is included in this history project, so it's ok!

Random Barry Ramblings...

Today I was thinking about Barry (nothing new) and I was wondering when the last time he actually did chores was. Then I decided the last time was approximately 1974 a few days after "Mandy" hit the radio. But then I also started thinking, "There must be SOMETHING Barry does, he can't be that much of a loaf."

So here is a list of chores Barry might do:

1.) Clean his out computer files. Because if he didn't do it some moron at Geek Squad (not that there's anything wrong with working at Geek Squad but the time I went for help the guy was a jerk, but more on that later) tries to clean out Mr. Manilow's PC and whoosh there goes 4 years worth of 3 minute master-peices.

2.) Cleaning his piano and sound mixing stuff. Why? Because someone may tamper with his settings and stuff.

3.) Walking his dogs. This is a no brainer, I heard he likes to do this. (hehe I cheated) Though this does NOT include cleaning up dog poop. He's Barry Manilow, he's classy, he doesn't touch dog poo.

4.) Organize his music collection.

5.) Clean his desk. Because if he's anything like me, he needs to know where all his stuff is.

6.) Fetch the newspaper in the morning. Because who want someone rifiling through the paper before you get to read it? I get yelled at when I do that to my mom! There is an exception to this chore: Unless Barry has one of the dogs fetch the paper and in that case, kudos Mr. M, that's awesome.

7.) Changing his calender. I know not a huge deal but I just looked at my wall and that's what I saw, my calender.



Does anyone else have any chores he might do?

WOAH!

Well well well here we are again, I should be writing a current event for my history class but I'm bored of it so I'm here! haha I really should be getting on the ball posting stuff on this wonderful little blog, but I forget about it and I'm lazy and when I do muster up the energy to write, nothing interesting is going on in the Manilow World. Hold on gotta find a new cd............ *minutes later* OKAY! I'm back sorry about that, I'm in a Manilow mood, hence why I'm here!

So what has Mr. B been up to? A lot actually!
-Let's see off the top of my head he just won a commercial award the CLIO! YAY
-He was nominated for a Grammy! Unfortunately, he lost to that old singer's daughter, i forgot her name, I'll eventually think of it.
-He just received the Steve Chase award for doing a lot of wonderful things for other people.
-He also was inducted into the Fraiers club! Unlucky for us, he didn't get roasted!! I was hoping he would, funny stuff there folks!!
-Barry annouced there will be ORGINAL material!!! The world stood still when he said that! Holy Smokes real genuine Manilow music and even better it's going to be like his EARLY rock oriented stuff. Which makes Kristen incredibly happy!

Uh.... lets see there's probalby other stuff too. But I'm tired and my legs hurt from running today so I kind of want to chill so I'm not digging through the internet to stalk Barry. I'm to lazy, plus I'm sure you guys already know what he's been up to!


So i got my Varsity Jacket today! And of course my mind drifted to Barry playing sports. We all know he's not an athlete (though I have heard he was pretty good at basketball in High School)but I was thinking how cool Barry would look in a nice varsity jacket. Then i was thinking how awesome it would be if he went to my high school, which gave me an image of Barry in jeans and a lovely black, white and red varsity jacket. And with my amazing Paint editing skills *wink* I bring you Barry Manilow the Varsity Letterman Athlete......

So he doesn't have much a neck but pretty Snazzy huh? I dig it. haha

Well after seeing some pictures from the The Manilow Music Project instrument give away yesterday I was inspired to do a little bit of photo manipulation.
If you have kids, grandkids or are a kid and have seen Phineas and Ferb on the Disney Channel you'll get where I'm coming from with this picture!

I was planning on saving up to 110 so I could get Here at the May Flower and a vinyal record but they took the record off the list, but it's ok. I don't have a record player lol it would be an insentive though

Last week we told you how one town in Australia was using Barry’s music to chase away hoodlums. “That’s criminal,” says Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. “Barry Manilow is a very underrated man. I am not ashamed to say Barry Manilow kicks ass.” Actor Keifer Sutherland agrees. I think that was unfair to Barry,” he tells us. “I think it was the decibel level at which they were playing it that drove them away.” Other Manilow fans include Friends star Matthew Perry – “I like to listen to ‘Mandy’ occasionally" – and comic Caroline Rhea: “I am deeply obsessed with Barry Manilow. Music: Barry's bonds

Manilow talks about his connections with Clive Davis, rock 'n' roll, Bob Dylan and the Twin Cities.

After three bestselling collections of cover songs from the 1950s, '60s and '70s, Barry Manilow is back writing the songs.

Maybe not the songs that the whole world will sing.

"It's more of a rock 'n' roll album than I've ever done," said the once and future King of the Middle of the Road, who will perform Friday at Xcel Energy Center.

OK, we're not talking Bruce Springsteen or the Foo Fighters. It's Mr. Schmaltz rocking out.

"It's got a real concept to it, like my 'Paradise Cafe' and 'Year at the Mayflower,' which kind of tell a story, or each song is set in some situation," he said.

Of course, it's up to Clive Davis, the record mogul who signed Manilow in 1974, to decide whether this project will be the singer's next release.

"Clive Davis warns me that every artist of my ilk has not sold very many albums when they've tried to release their own original albums -- from Elton John to Paul McCartney to Joni Mitchell," Manilow said. "Frankly, I've never done it for the sales. It never dawns on me unless Clive tells me about it.

"He came up with these ideas about the greatest songs of the '50s, '60s and '70s. He has the greatest commercial ideas in the history of pop music. I just follow his lead. I love arranging these songs, I love producing them and singing them. But I really do miss the songwriting."

To be sure, he and Davis have talked about a 1980s collection, and the singer has started to look at songs. Would he consider another kind of project, say, a duets album with Bette Midler, for whom he was music director in the early '70s?

"We did two songs, one on each of those albums I produced for her," he said, referring to her recent tributes to Rosemary Clooney and Peggy Lee. "They were fun. I think she's a little busy now."

Next month, Midler will launch a Las Vegas residency, replacing Celine Dion at Caesars Palace. Manilow has been ensconced at Vegas' Hilton Hotel since February 2005, and he's booked through at least the end of 2008. "I think they're talking about a couple years more," he said. "I haven't been involved in that yet."

After having huge success last year with a few concerts in his hometown, New York City, Manilow has been sneaking away for occasional non-Vegas performances. The road shows are different from what he does in Sin City.

"It's kind of a blown-up version of the Vegas show," he explained. "They only let you do 85 minutes in Vegas and then they want the audience out there throwing their money away [in the casino]. So I've added a lot more songs and more hits that I usually don't do in Vegas."

In Vegas, he plays five consecutive nights a week, which must be a challenge for someone who'll turn 65 in June.

"Thanks for reminding me I'm in my 60s," he joked. "I feel like I'm in my 30s. I have a 29-inch waist, and I weigh 144 pounds, and I work out every day. I've got lots of energy."

Never thought he'd perform

In concert, Manilow is quite the entertainer, but he said he's clueless where his sense of showmanship comes from.

"It was the last thing I ever thought I was going to do, being onstage," he said. "I am a musician and an arranger and a songwriter and a producer. Being onstage, first of all, was the wildest thing that ever happened to me back in the '70s. And now being considered a showman is even crazier. I just never really thought about that."

Manilow's idea of a stage show is more than standing there "unless it's Neil Young or James Taylor or John Denver playing his guitar. I put my background singers in silly outfits, and I tell corny old jokes, and I put medleys together that go from here to there. I have a good time. If I just sat down at the piano and played 'Mandy' through 'Read Em and Weep' or whatever, I would be bored."

Manilow's 2006 resurgence was boosted by his second appearance on "American Idol." He hadn't even seen the show when he was first asked to appear on it in 2004.

"That was a big deal," he said. "I don't do things for the publicity or the money. I know that sounds odd. I can say that now that I've got all the money in the world."

Things didn't go as smoothly for Manilow when he was scheduled to appear on TV's "The View" last September. He backed out because he refused to be interviewed by Elizabeth Hasselback, who is known for her conservative views.

"I just do things the way I feel I've got to do them," he said. "And that was one that I felt like I had to do."

Halloween snowstorm

Manilow's Minnesota fans will vividly recall his three-day stand in 1991 to open the newly remodeled State Theatre. The first night was Halloween, when the snowstorm of the century -- OK, 31 inches -- began.

"I remember walking to the rehearsal," he said. "The snow -- holy mackerel!"

Twin Cities audiences have been consistently supportive, he said. "Minneapolis and St. Paul have been great to me. I'm this Jew boy from Brooklyn, and I don't know why these people from the Midwest connect with what I do. They've always been on my side."

Maybe it's payback because a "Jew boy" from Hibbing, Minn. -- Bob Dylan -- had to go to New York to get discovered. Manilow encountered the Minnesota icon once, in the late 1980s.

"It was an odd meeting," he recalled. It took place at a Seder, a ceremonial Passover dinner, at the home of songwriting legend Burt Bacharach. "He [Dylan] came over to me and said, 'Keep doing what you're doing, man. You're inspiring all of us.' Isn't that nice?"

Nice words, indeed. But how would Manilow like to be remembered? In 1987 he answered that same question from the Star Tribune with just one word: "Goosebumps."

"I was going to give you a more mature answer," he said last month. "I was going to tell you that I'd like to be remembered as a guy that made you feel something. 'Goosebumps' is a real wiseass answer, but it says the same thing. My goal is to make you feel something.

"After having done it for so many more years than I ever, ever thought I'd be doing it, I look out in the audience and their response is more important to me than ever. I don't mean their applause. I mean the fact that they're smiling and having the greatest time."
